How to set up your account and run email, texting, calls, and mail. Short answers first. Each section links to the page in the app where you do the work.

Getting started

There is no monthly software fee. You add funds to a balance, and each send draws from it. Setup walks through five short chapters: About you, Your organization, Communication, Consent and trust, and Billing and alerts. After that, four steps get you to a first send.

  1. 01Add funds. Open Account, then Billing.
  2. 02Upload your contacts. Open Contacts and choose Upload list.
  3. 03Start texting registration if you plan to text. Open Account, then Numbers, and choose Enable texting. Email, calls, and mail work while it is in review.
  4. 04Create a campaign from Command Center.

Balance and billing

Your organization has one prepaid balance. Before a send goes out, the cost is reserved as a hold. When the send finishes, you are charged for what actually went out and the rest of the hold is released. Billing shows every hold, release, and final charge.

Deposits under $100 carry a 3% processing fee. Get 5% extra at $250 or 10% extra at $500. Every deposit gets an emailed receipt.

Auto Top-Up charges your saved card an amount you choose when the balance reaches a trigger you set, so a large send is not held up. You can also set a low-balance alert in Billing and alerts. The owner gets an email when the balance drops under it.

Full terms are in the billing policy. Current prices are on the pricing page.

Contacts and lists

Upload a CSV or Excel file with names and contact details. Before the import finishes, you name the list. Every uploaded contact is also added to your master list, so that list is always your largest one.

On Contacts, check one or more lists to filter. When you pick an audience for a campaign, checking several lists reaches anyone on any of them, once.

You can clean a list before you send. Open Account, then Verification, to check email addresses for bounces and mailing addresses against postal records. Cleaning is billed per contact checked.

People who unsubscribe, reply STOP, hard-bounce, or mark an email as spam go to suppression. Suppressed contacts are never sent to, and the suppression list cannot be picked as an audience.

Email

Email is $1 per 1,000 recipients. Your From name, From address, and reply-to address live in Organization settings. Replies land in Communications.

For the best inbox placement, send from a domain you control. Organization settings lists the DNS records to publish (DKIM, SPF, and DMARC). Add them where your domain is hosted, then click Verify.

Campaign Commander adds your paid-for-by line and an unsubscribe link to every campaign email, so you do not have to build them into your design. Send now or schedule a time.

After a send, the report shows sent, delivered, and bounced counts. Opens, clicks, and unsubscribes keep updating as people read.

Texting registration

Carriers require every organization that texts from a regular phone number to register first. This is called 10DLC. Campaign Commander files it for you from your organization settings. You review and submit.

  1. 01Business information is filed and reviewed.
  2. 02Your texting campaign is filed: what you send, and how people agree to get it.
  3. 03Carriers approve it. A sending number is attached, and texting turns on.

Carriers look closely at your signup page. Before you submit, make sure:

  • The phone field is optional, and the text-message checkbox is separate from email and starts unchecked.
  • The consent wording, with your organization's name, sits on the form, not only in your Terms.
  • Privacy and Terms links are on the form and point to real pages on the same domain.
  • The support email is a person's mailbox on your website's domain. Carriers reject info@, admin@, chairman@, and Gmail addresses.

Candidates, PACs, and parties also need a Campaign Verify token. Create your committee at campaignverify.org ($95, paid to them), confirm the PIN sent to the contact on your public filing, and paste the token that starts with cv|. 501(c) groups skip this step.

Review usually takes days, and longer in election season, so start early. If a filing is sent back, the email names what to fix. Before you pay for another review, Campaign Commander checks the page again for free.

Phone numbers

A number costs $2 to set up and $2 a month, paid from your balance. The same number can text once registration is approved, and it is the caller ID people see when you call.

You get a reminder before each monthly rental if your balance will not cover it. If it is still short on the billing date, we do not take the balance below zero and we do not release the number. Texting and calling keep working, and the charge is retried daily and again when you add funds.

Calls and the power dialer

Calls are 6¢ per connected minute. The power dialer charges the same rate for each minute the caller is on the line. You can also send robocalls and recorded voicemail drops.

Here is how a calling shift works:

  1. 01Save the phone you will answer. Open Account, then Settings.
  2. 02Join a calling campaign. Your phone rings once for the whole shift, and you stay on that line.
  3. 03You hear the next person's name before their phone rings. Voters see your organization's number, not yours.
  4. 04Reach a voicemail? Drop the recorded message, or just speak after the beep.
  5. 05Mark how the call went, then press Next voter. Stop the shift from the screen.

If you do not answer when the shift starts, no voter is dialed, and nothing is charged.

Postcards and letters

Postcards and letters are priced per piece, with printing and postage included. Upload a print-ready PDF, PNG, or JPG at the upload size, which includes bleed. Leave the address block clear. Mail is the one channel that cannot be recalled once it goes to print, so check the artwork before you send.

Emails from Campaign Commander

Every email we send says at the bottom why you got it. Owners get balance alerts, receipts, phone-rental reminders, texting registration updates, and a note when a campaign finishes. Everyone gets security email: password resets, sign-in links, and changes to their email or password.

If you get a security email for a change you did not make, contact support right away. Setup tips for a new organization stop on their own once setup is done, and each one has a link to stop them sooner.

Transactional email

Send confirmations, password resets, receipts, and form follow-ups from your own website or app through the Campaign Commander API, from your own domain. No monthly fee.

API & MCP

Connect your scripts, applications, or agents through the REST API or a compatible MCP host. Use any HTTP client, with no particular model or agent platform required. The guide covers credentials, scopes, and workflows; the public API specification is at /openapi.json.
